14th edition of the Dakar rally, a truck rally for experienced pilots
The 14th edition of the Dakar rally has been risky, since it was described as one of the most difficult in South America. The route is one and a half time longer than the route of other competitions and is filled with impressive pitfalls. In order to have a clear view of the difficulty of this route : 75 pilots started the rally and 25 withdrawals.
The Dakar rally podium, a hard route to victory
With 7 min 25 seconds in advance over Gerard de Rooy (from the Iveco team), everything seemed good for Andrey Karginov. Unfortunately, he had to help out on an accident, at the 90th kilometer, in accordance with the regulations in effect. He loses ten minutes before being able to rejoin the race, the Dutch pilot reaches the finish line first. However, the jury, after deliberating, decides to give more than 9 minutes in compensation to the Russian pilot. Thus, he finishes the Dakar rally at the first place.
