Trucks from the future : zoom on what's to come
European trucks should have a completely new design by 2018. The manufacturer's researches and innovations mainly focus on fuel consumption reduction and ecological solutions. But, new research areas are to be seen since the European Parliament changes their instructions on trucks and truck sizes : aerodynamics should be on every truck.

Tomorrow's Renault, MAN, Mercedes and Iveco

Renault offers two futuristic models : the Optifuel and the Radiance.
There is lots of technical innovations : cameras instead of rearview mirrors, longer front bumper for a better wind surface area and futuristic lines.
The models should be available in 2018.

For Iveco, it is the Glider tractor unit that created a buzz at the latest IAA in Hannover. It has a cab that adapts to the driver's activity : driving, office and rest. Designwise, everything is made to collect the kinetic energy and limits the rolling resistance.
You'd have to be patient to have the new Glider because it won't be available before 2018.
For MAN, the S concept is as far as possible of today's trucks. The lines are even more surprising and the whole truck is aerodynamic. With the special Aero liner semi-trailer from Krone, this tractor unit reduces the fuel consumption by 25%.

Finally Mercedes-Benz, emphasises their researches on bodywork and introduce the Aero Trailer, an aerodynamic semi-trailer designed with Schmitz Cargobull. Optimised for a better air resistance, it can save up to 2000l of fuel per year.
