Renault Trucks just announced their EDIT project, which is set to reduce by 13% the fuel consumption of distribution vehicles in comparison with the Euro 6 Renaut Trucks already on the market.

With 6 partners (Valéo, Lamberet, Michelin, BeNomad, INSA from Lyon and the IFSTTAR), Renault Trucks currently tests a new concept in connection with the EDIT (Efficient Distribution Truck) project.

After testing the Optifuel Lab 2 , which is suppose to reduce the fuel consumption of long-distance trucks, the manufacturer continues its research and wants to apply the latest innovative technologies for the Distribution range.

The prototype for the EDIT project will be a Renault Trucks D Wide Euro 6, equipped with a refrigerated semi-trailer.

New lines of research to reduce fuel consumption

The goal of the manufacturer is to design a refrigerated truck, which would consume 13% less fuel than the reference Euro-6 distribution truck on the market. The EDIT project by Renault Trucks uses three new research lines :

The aerodynamism of the truck, as well as the semi-trailer, will be completely redesigned. These innovations should significantly lower the trail (the truck's resistance to the air) to gain speed and spare energy.

The Renault Trucks D Wide Euro 6 will also be equipped with a micro hybrid low voltage system. It will be used to recover part of the energy used to brake.

Finally, the third line of research is a new driving tool based on the truck's connectivity with its environment. Indeed, the truck could be connected to traffic lights via Bluetooth and should be able to adapt the speed to each change of the traffic lights.

A delivery for 2018

The Efficient Distribution Truck prototype will have all the latest technologies and knowledge of all six partners. All of these solutions can be made commercially available by 2020.

Regarding the Renault Trucks D Wide Euro 6 EDIT, the official delivery is 2018.
