Renault Trucks organises the international finale of the Optifuel Challenge in Portugal. The winner will be the driver using the less fuel yet keeping the same commercial speed. The 37 truck drivers, coming from 20 countries in Europe and North Africa were selected during the natioanl trials. France has two eco-drivers : Julien Dodré, driver at Norbert Dentressangle and Viriato Alvès from Transports SM.
A competition in two trials
First, the finalists should answer a quizz to test their knowledge in terms of eco driving and represents 10% of the final marks. Then, they will drive for 40 minutes on an open road with a Renault Trucks T Optifuel (awarded International Truck of the year 2015). Indeed, En effet, the experts from TÜV Rheinland certified that this model uses up to 10.9% less fuel in comparison with the standard Renault Trucks T. In order to reduce their fuel consumption, the manufacturer trains the drivers to be eco driver with the Optifuel Training program. Consequently, the finalists were trained prior to their participation in the challenge.
During the challenge, the drivers will be judged on the quality of their rational drive, their commercial speed and their fuel consumption. These data will be collected with the information transferred by the analyse driving software Optifuel Infomax. At the end of the trial, each driver could talk with a Renault Trucks expert, specialised in eco-drive, in order to get a report on his performance.
The winner will get a voucher worth 8 000 euros, valid in any wanted shop. The winner's company will also get a one-year rent of a Renault Trucks T 460 Optifuel, full service.
