Delivery trucks without drivers designed by Google

Google got a patent in February 2016 regarding express transport. Indeed, the American company offers an "autonomous delivery platform" that can deliver without the intervention of a driver.

How Google conceived the driving of the vehicle without driver ?

In order to ensure the safety on the road, Google wants to equip their autonomous trucks with radars, laser direction features, cameras and several sensors. Moreover, the driveless van by Google will be connected to the internet at all times in order to broadcast the different data. The autonomous vehicle will get the necessary information to deliver the packages. It will be equipped with an efficient navigation system already used on the driverless Google cars.

Package transport and reception by buyer

Just like specialised vans for money transport, the autonomous delivery trucks by Google will be safe. The back of the vehicle will be made of little saves that can only be opened by a code.

To get the packagen the buyer must type in the secret code on the locked case. The code will be sent by text to the person receiving the package. Besides, Google talks about the partnership of a GPS tracker with the code. Thus, the safe can only be open where it has to be delivered.

Moreover, Google will also send a text to the person receiving the package when the truck's feet away from the delivery point. If the delivery takes longer, the person will be told by text.

Recently, driverless truck projects multiply. In 2015, German manufacturer Daimler tested the first autonomous trucks, the Freightliner. At the moment, Google hasn't communicated about a launch date for their autonomous delivery truck.
