Electric trucks from Mercedes will soon be on European soil. Called eActros, they will be tested in real conditions by different clients. Cleaner and quieter, these trucks could, in the short term, be offered to more clients.

A first convincing prototype

Mercedes-Benz Trucks had already introduced the first prototype version of the eTruck in Hannover in 2016, at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show. The public, as well as several clients and politicians, had shown a great interest in this project. Already the first world manufacturer of electric trucks, Daimler Trucks continue its market conquest for less polluting trucks. Several improvements of the latest prototype have been made. Now, the eActros will have to prove themselves on roads.

A 24-month test

In a few days, the first 100% electric trucks by Mercedes-Benz Trucks will be given to a few clients used to driving the eTruck for the launch of the tests that will last 2 years. Adapted to meet the requirements of the users, the eActros will be equipped with refrigerated or tarp bodyworks. They will then be evaluated on roads during everyday tasks of diesel trucks. The results of this experience will be used to improve the vehicles and will help adjust certain technical points. The manufacturer has advertise a 200km autonomy for this electric model equipped with two lithium ion batteries rechargeable between 3 and 11 hours.

According to Daimler Trucks, owner of Mercedes, 1,3 billion euros have been invested between 2018 and 2019 in the R&D sector, to help the German manufacturer reach its goal : start the production of the eActros from now to 2021.
