Daimler Truck North America will soon offer a new generation of heavy-duty diesel engines. Reserved for the North American market, they will be marketed under the Detroit brand and will include three models (DD13, DD15 and DD16) at launch.

Available from 2027

The manufacturer recently confirmed that the first deliveries of the DD13 and DD15 will take place in the first quarter of 2027. As for the D16, however, customers will have to wait, as its production will only begin in 2028. These new power units will then be fitted to Freightliner and Western Star heavy-duty trucks.

The Gen 6 engines, like all other Detroit engines, are produced in the United States. Located in Michigan, the Redford facility is part of the HDEP. An international benchmark in the industrial vehicle sector, Daimler Truck’s heavy-duty diesel engine platform produces 200,000 units each year across its various sites.

6 generations of DD engines

The Detroit DD engine range was launched in 2007. Its first models were already positioned as effective solutions to address environmental challenges and the tightening regulatory framework that followed. At the time, the aim was to upgrade customers’ fleets without compromising productivity, reliability or power. The first generation was then succeeded by Gen 2 in 2010, Gen 3 in 2013 and Gen 4 in 2016. It then took five years for the current series to arrive (Gen 5 in 2021).
