MAN Truck & Bus has designed a new, exceptional road tractor capable of handling a gross combination weight of 250 tonnes. Named TGX 41.640 8x4/4, this model allows the manufacturer’s range—now covering weights from 3.5 to 250 tonnes—to offer new alternatives in heavy transport.

A 250-tonne GCW

The TGX 41.640 8x4/4 is equipped with a MAN engine delivering a maximum output of 640 hp. The inline six-cylinder MAN D3876 also provides a high torque of 3,000 Nm, available over a wide range (from 900 to 1,380 rpm). This feature enables it to haul heavy loads at low speeds.

The TipMatic 12.30 OD automated gearbox includes a torque converter that ensures precise maneuvering and smoother starts, reducing strain on components. It also offers two operating modes that adjust engine behavior according to the load weight to save fuel. The braking system benefits from Retarder 40 technology, designed to deliver high continuous braking power while preserving component lifespan.

Heavy-duty equipment built to last

Produced at the Munich and Wittlich plants, this road tractor is equipped with heavy-duty components straight from the factory. Installed within a protective rack behind the cab, it consists of six tanks. Four are dedicated to compressed air storage, with a total capacity of 160 liters. The fifth holds 960 liters of fuel, while the last, with a capacity of 290 liters, is dedicated to the hydraulic system. To maintain the engine’s thermal stability even under heavy loads, an oversized cooling unit is also part of the system.
