FH Aero Electric e-axle: Volvo breaks the 700 km range barrier
Volvo Trucks is renewing its entire heavy electric line-up in April 2026, with the launch of the FH Aero Electric e-axle, the brand's first model to achieve 700 km of range on a single charge. The new-generation Volvo FH, FM and FMX complete this offensive, offering up to 470 km and a fully redesigned powertrain. All models will be rolled out progressively across markets from this year.
The Volvo FH Aero Electric e-axle is the centrepiece of this launch. The e-axle integration frees up space in the chassis to accommodate more batteries, bringing total capacity to eight packs. The result: 700 km of range with no penalty on payload — an unprecedented performance in this segment.
Compatibility with the MCS (Megawatt Charging System) standard allows all eight batteries to be charged from 20% to 80% in around 50 minutes, fitting within a driver's mandatory rest break. This charging window is a key factor for integration into long-haul routes.
FH, FM and FMX: versatile powertrain and integrated power take-off
The new-generation Volvo FH, FM and FMX Electric feature an entirely new powertrain combining two electric motors with an eight-speed powershift gearbox. Gear changes occur under load, reducing jerkiness and cabin noise levels. Range reaches up to 470 km, with a 20%–80% charge in 65 minutes. The specific equipment is the other major technical contribution: a power take-off (PTO) integrated directly into the gearbox eliminates the need for an auxiliary unit to power onboard equipment — concrete mixers, lifting arms, refuse trucks. This architecture broadens possible applications without modifying the drivetrain.
Progressive market rollout from 2026
The FH Aero Electric e-axle and the three renewed models will be sold in sequence throughout 2026. Volvo Trucks has not yet specified market availability dates or the pricing structure for this new generation.
