Scania: preserving the world's natural resources
Scania, one of the leading truck manufacturers, is commited to developping 100% sustainable means for transporting goods and people. The company has been constantly innovating its product range to offer its clients green solutions, in particular, hybrid trucks and bioethanol-powered trucks.
An innovative concept for Scania hybrid buses
Resulting from a 5-year research programme, Scania has launched full-scale operational trials of ethanol-powered buses with a series hybrid powertrain. This unique concept should reduce fuel consumption by at least 25%. In addition, the use of ethanol is expected to reduce fossil CO2 emissions by up to 90%. Ever since 2009, 6 Scania hybrid buses has been operating on the streets of Stockholm to test the viability and the profitability of the truck manufacturer's solutions. And the results of these 2 years of trials should enable Scania to evaluate the actual benefits of its hybrid innovations before launching them on the market.
More sustainable commercial vehicles thanks to bio-fuels
Scania is ready to present its innovative solutions based on the renewable fuels on the French market (already available in other countries). Always searching for a viable alternative to diesel, Scania France announced the launch of the year-long period of real life conditions tests for its 3 bioethanol trucks scheduled to begin in January 2012. According to the Swedish truck manufacturer, these are the first heavy trucks to be powered by bioethanol, the only alternative fuel to satisfy 3 key criteria: easily available, clean and economic. It should be noted that Scania has been manufacturing engines for ethanol busses for more than 20 years.
Scania supporting its drivers
Well aware of the driver's value, Scania has launched the Scania Driver Support. It is a real-time support system designed to help drivers improve their driving style by continually analyzing their performance. In addition, the manufacturer invites truck drivers to participate in the Scania Driver training created to teach them to drive more economically and more safely, thus considerably reducing fuel consumption, as well as CO2 emissions. And in order to reward the skills and the eco-friendly attitude of the best truck drivers, the Swedish manufacturer has launched the Scania Driver Competition, also known as the Young European Truck Driver Award (since 2003).
Ecolution by Scania
Scania has developed a new package of green products and services to satisfy its eco-friendly clients - Ecolution by Scania. Designed to minimize the carbon footprint, this original concept is a unique combination of the Scania innovative means of transportation and the manufacturer's active follow-up for both trucks and drivers. The Ecolution by Scania label covers all commercially available fuels (diesel, bio-diesel, biogas, natural gas, and ethanol), as well as the CO2 optimised diesel vehicles.
